Shirt Designs From The Famine

Shirt Designs From The Famine

The Famine posts some tasty designs for the metal connoisseur in all of us. Vocalist Kris McCaddon has been known to do a lot of industry design in the past, but I’m not sure if he did these.

Manchester Orchestra - Apple Tree t-shirt

Artist: Manchester Orchestra
Title: Apple Tree
Designer: Jordan Noel

I’m usually not a fan of white t-shirts but for this design it works well.

From Jordan, who does Ginger Group Designs (read all of it, it’s interesting):

The tree shirt that you are interested in is one in a series of
designs that i was doing for Manchester to go with the first album,
“i’m like a virgin losing a child”. i designed the cover and all for
that record and it was all very organic. the focus was paper and tape
and all of these real tangible things. i wanted to take a step back
from that and show a bigger picture. so my mind went to trees. so my
t shirts and posters were very consciously shaped around wood and
leaves.

JR is a lo-fi design and musical collaboration, where you get a free CD with every clothing purchase. Neat idea, though it’s new and could develop into something big.

Unicorn Zip-Up by Heroine Clothing

ITEM: Unicorn Zip-Up Hoodie ($41.95)
COMPANY: Heroine Clothing
BRAND: American Apparel
DESIGNERS: Jonathan Strauss & Michel Bezoza

The black hoodie; a staple of the modern “scene.” Most are adorned with the status of how musically informed you are, and emblazend with logos of popular bands. Sometimes your best bet is obscure-yet-smart designs like this.

It’s hard to beat the ironic nature of dueling unicorn sea horses. Fine, soft silkscreened lines on 100% cotton is a solid bet for chasing away the winter cold, at least while shivering outside whatever venue while telling tall stories of touring with popular bands.

Item: Pride t-shirt
Designer: Dave Quiggle / Black Rose District

Sticking to his old-schooly tattoo style work, Dave Quiggle begins his “Seven Deadly Sins” series with the biggie, pride. From the looks of it, this line will be similar to the Ten Commandment series, although there’s a bit more color in the this individual piece, contrasting with the single hue idea for each different commandment.

Company: Legionnaire Apparel
Designer: Mike Herrera and Joe Moxley (clothing designs)

This company is the brainchild of Mike from MxPx and a designer friend. The site seems too blockish to me, but it’s laid out very simply with no confusion-inducing navigation or super crazy imagery.

Old school horror-like with the duotone colors. The curvy typeface on the hoodie adds to the retro feel.

Besides looking good, I like the general concept of “seeing with your heart” that the design implies. It reminds me of the famous quote from Pascal.

Artist: Means
Item: Lost City t-shirt
Label: Facedown
Designer: Dave Quiggle

Not exactly sure if this is a Quiggle, but it has all the earmarks. Looks like there’s two (very close) shades of red here, but an amazing amount of clarity and detail for such a limited palette.
